Janklow Arts Leadership Program to award professional development opportunity

Program partnering with Webb Management Services, a leader in planning and operation of live performance spaces

In collaboration with Webb Management Services, a leading provider of development, planning, and consulting services for arts organizations and facilities, the Janklow Arts Leadership Program in Syracuse University’s College of Arts and Sciences will award an unique professional development opportunity to one or more students planning to pursue a career in arts leadership. 

The selected students will participate in an extended paid internship that will run concurrently with the student’s academic course work. He or she will work on significant projects, participate in staff conference calls and in-person meetings, and be assigned a mentor to provide guidance throughout the internship. 

Mark Nerenhausen, professor of practice and founding director of the Janklow Program, says: “This is a tremendous opportunity for one of our students to gain tangible, real-world experience that will prepare him or her for post-collegiate success, while introducing our program and its talented students to a marquis consulting firm, seeking to employ the next generation of arts leaders.”

Creating and nurturing partnerships is a critical component of the Janklow Program’s overall mission, and, thanks to partners like Webb Management Services, SU students are exposed to opportunities that they otherwise wouldn’t experience. 

“We are pleased to extend this opportunity to a Janklow Program student,” says Duncan Webb, president and founder.  “In today’s tough economy, it’s more important than ever that graduates enter the workforce with practical, hands-on experience. As a business owner, it’s in my best interest to hire graduates who will be able to hit the ground running from Day One. This partnership really is a win-win for the Janklow Program and for Webb Management Services.”

The Janklow Program’s impressive portfolio of partnerships includes some of the nation’s leading arts organizations, such as Broadway Across America, the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, Classical South Florida, and the Luminato Festival. Janklow students have recently interned at Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City Center, and Seattle Art Museum.

Housed in The College’s Department of Art and Music Histories, the Janklow Program is named for Morton L. Janklow ’50, one of the country’s most powerful literary agents and arts advocates. The program offers a 15-month, 39-credit hour master’s degree that trains leaders of nonprofit and for-profit organizations in the creative and performing arts. More recently, the Janklow Program began offering an Arts Leadership Advanced Certificate, which is a 15-credit-hour program for recent college graduates and experienced practitioners that provides an additional foundation and training in management and may be used in conjunction with other master’s programs on campus.
